  1. Awesome post, Christopher.

The increased hypocrisy of many politicians seems to correlate with their success.

I can think of very few politicians in the U.S. who haven’t considered themselves beyond the litmus test of ethics and integrity and it’s not just supremely frustrating, it’s outright infuriating that they see themselves as admonishers of right and wrong, yet rather than correcting “oversights”, they excuse their own transgressions as acceptable.

Imagine the mileage Trudeau could have made from this had he chosen the right path and corrected the error. Yet; as most politicians do, he decided to take advantage of a benefit he likely has no need for instead. Seems pretty foolish to me.

  2. Thanks, Abigail.

Trudeau lost the “moral right” to a taxpayer-funded Nanny when he condemned Stephen Harper for sending child care cheques to people who earn more than $200,000 a year. By his own moral standard, he is a hypocrite. He doesn’t practice what he preaches.

  3. This NannyGate, as you’ve termed it, sounds like a “you can’t eat your cake and have it too” circumstance. If it’s good for other Canadians to confirm to the Canada Child Benefit, why is it not good for Trudeau? Granted, being a prime minister is hard work, and a nanny might make sense. However, like you suggested, why not pay for the nanny himself, out of his own pocket? It is not as though he doesn’t have the money.

Politics is, unfortunately, full of hypocrisy. Then again, most any field of work has its fair share. It is a consequence of working with other people.
